This month, Google and Audi have revealed the internet company’s OS for the 2018 Audi Q8. The Q8 Sport will have a touch screen and more infotainment features than ever before. The two companies argue that a Google OS will allow for more apps to be written specifically for your Audi.

Audi are joining other German car manufacturers, Mercedes Benz, in embracing Google technology for their vehicles.

This year, Mercedes have started to integrate Google Assistant on Google Home (and their app, mbrace, for iPhone users) with their newer models’ smart displays. This technology hooks your ride in with The Internet of Things (IoT), allowing you to check your fuel levels and car alarm when away from your vehicle. You can even lock or unlock your doors from an entirely different location, or send tomorrow’s destination to your car from afar.
The technology may seem gimmicky right now, but with an open coding platform and an Android system designed specifically for your car, soon you will be able to buy apps purposefully built for your vehicle, which may change your driving experience in ways we are yet to imagine! Spotify, Facebook Messenger and Google Maps are just the start.

With more big name companies creating different parts of your Audi and Mercedes Benz, service specialists are required to extend their scope to not just cars but computers too.

As Google, through Android, create more technology for the classic car companies, it may become unclear who can repair what. At Volks Affair, our mechanics and service specialists stay up-to-date with all new technologies affecting Audi, BMW, VW and Mercedes Benz to ensure our clients get the best German car service in Melbourne.
New and emerging car technologies, including infotainment technologies such as Android, Google Assistant and mbrace, mean that a greater demand is being placed on the automotive specialist service sector than ever before. Your car service specialist is increasingly required to work inside your cabin as well as under your hood, with some dealerships in America even hiring specific tech support specialists! While we don’t need this level of tech support for our machines in Australia yet, who knows what the future might bring?
This new technology means that when enjoying your drive, you can dial a friend, call up a tune or navigate a map with the ease and sophistication befitting your BMW, Mercedes, Audi or Volkswagen, but it also means that more can go wrong with your vehicle. As the presence of car infotainment systems become more commonplace, service specialists will have to develop their skills alongside them.

As car infotainment technologies evolve, so too will the specialists who work on them. At VolksAffair, we pride ourselves on remaining up-to-date with the latest in German Car Services so that we can offer our clients the ultimate driving experience. If you are not getting the most out of your BMW, Audi, VW or Mercedes Benz, why not book an appointment with us today to see how we  can help?
